We are thrilled to announce that Justin Wunderler, Veterans Service Coordinator at New Vitae Wellness and Recovery, has been honored with the Veteran Business Award by the Philadelphia Business Journal. This award recognizes Justin’s outstanding contributions, both in his 21-year career with the United States Air Force and in his civilian role, where he continues to empower veterans and lead with excellence.
A Distinguished Military Career
Justin’s military career, which spanned over two decades, was defined by precision, leadership, and a deep commitment to mission success. As a Master Sergeant (E-7) in the United States Air Force, Justin served as an Armament Systems Craftsman, responsible for the safety and effectiveness of air combat missions. His work included managing the loading and unloading of munitions, ensuring the reliability of aircraft suspension systems, and performing critical safety checks. Justin’s leadership extended to overseeing teams responsible for maintaining aircraft like the F-22, ensuring mission readiness, and implementing safety protocols across a variety of platforms.
One of Justin’s most notable achievements was orchestrating the operational plans for the first-ever combat-generated bombing run for the F-22. Additionally, his service saw him take on crucial roles as a Quality Assurance Inspector, Instructor, and Production Team Leader, where he led teams in maintaining aircraft worth billions of dollars. Justin’s leadership contributed to successful missions during deployments to Japan, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia, as well as his involvement in key operations such as Operation Enduring Freedom, the Global War on Terror, and Operation Noble Eagle.
Throughout his military career, Justin earned numerous accolades, including the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medals, and Air Force Achievement Medals. These honors reflect his unwavering dedication to service and the high standards he maintained throughout his career.
Continued Impact in Civilian Life
Justin’s transition into civilian life has been equally remarkable. At New Vitae Wellness and Recovery, Justin now serves as the Veterans Service Coordinator, where he continues to apply his expertise and experience. While Justin focuses on supporting veterans, his work also extends to all residents at New Vitae. He provides clear, direct support to individuals as they navigate their mental health recovery, emphasizing teamwork and practical solutions. Known for his ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations, Justin plays a vital role in managing critical moments and ensuring the best outcomes for residents. His collaboration with veteran organizations and community partners ensures that all residents receive the comprehensive care they need.
Bridging the Gap Between Military and Civilian Worlds
Justin’s journey highlights the challenges veterans face when transitioning from military to civilian life—challenges that many outside the military often struggle to understand. What makes Justin’s work so impactful is his ability to provide others with a clearer perspective on what veterans experience, especially regarding mental health. Justin works closely with clinicians to offer insight that helps both veterans and civilians alike grasp the emotional and psychological toll of military service. His work goes beyond his own experience, advocating for those dealing with mental health challenges and ensuring their needs are understood.
In addition to his work at New Vitae, Justin has also dedicated over 200 hours as a Lead Resiliency Trainer, guiding both veterans and civilians on personal fortitude and mental toughness. Through this role, he continues to foster resilience, further bridging the gap between military and civilian worlds. Justin’s leadership ensures that mental health issues are approached with the care and insight they deserve across all communities.
