Jennifer Smith, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) toured the New Vitae Wellness and Recovery Center and Sober Living Community for Veterans on National Overdose Awareness Day – August 31st, 2018. Ms. Smith has been a tremendous advocate for Pennsylvania citizens in need of treatment for substance use disorders. She has also been a strong supporter for service providers to facilitate strengthening the drug and alcohol treatment system in the Commonwealth. Ms. Smith had the opportunity to speak with two Veterans in recovery at New Vitae. Additional visitors included Layne Turner, Lehigh County Drug and Alcohol Administrator and DDAP Division of Treatment staff including Jodi Skiles and Dianne Schrode. Todd Barlow, New Vitae’s Clinical Director, shared information with the group regarding evidenced-based treatment strategies, the importance of family involvement in recovery, and reintegration.
